Retinal Biomarkers of Neurodegeneration: The Emerging Role of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Artificial Intelligence (IA)
Abstract
RELEVANCE: The importance of this approach lies in the retina as a route for assessing neurodegeneration in the central nervous system. By combining OCT with IA, changes can be identified before symptoms appear, facilitating the diagnosis of diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. SUMMARY: The retina functions as an extension of the central nervous system that allows neurodegenerative processes to be observed. By combining Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Artificial Intelligence (IA), it is possible to detect biomarkers to improve the diagnosis and monitoring of diseases such as Alzheimer's disease or Parkinson's disease.
