Circulating Inflammatory and Metabolic Biomarkers Associated with Leukocyte Telomere Length: A Scoping Review of Clinical and Population-Based Studies
Abstract
This study is a scoping review that investigates the relationship between chronic systemic inflammation, metabolic dysfunction, and biological aging, as reflected by leukocyte telomere length (LTL). Telomere shortening is a recognized marker of aging and has been linked to multiple chronic diseases. The main objective of the study is to identify which circulating inflammatory and metabolic biomarkers are most consistently associated with shorter telomeres in adults, both in patients with chronic diseases and in general population cohorts. By systematically mapping the existing literature from major databases, the study aims to clarify current evidence and highlight key biomarkers involved in inflammation-driven cellular aging, with a particular focus on cytokines and metabolic indicators.
