Search for a new geroprotector: study of the effect of fucoxanthin on the main markers of aging in mice
Abstract
Today, one of the key tasks of gerontology is the search for geroprotectors that are highly effective and safe. This paper presents data on the effect of fucoxanthin, a natural carotenoid, on aging markers in mice. Results are presented demonstrating the potential geroprotective activity of fucoxanthin. In particular, a decrease in the concentration of malondialdehyde in the liver by 17%, an increase in the total antioxidant activity of blood plasma by 24%, and a decrease in the levels of p16, p21 and p53 in the myocardium and spleen by 13-20% were observed. In addition, a decrease in proinflammatory cytokines IL-6, TNF-α and MCP-1 by 13-14% was recorded compared to the control group.
