Climacteric and Quality of Life in Women Attending Ramiro Priale National Hospital in Huancayo - Peru
Abstract
The climacteric is a biological transition stage in women characterized by a decrease in ovarian function and hormone levels, which triggers physical, psychological and social symptoms that can compromise their overall well-being. Objective: To determine the relationship between menopause and quality of life in women who attended the Ramiro Prialé National Hospital in Huancayo. Methods: Analytical cross-sectional observational study. The sample consisted of 190 patients diagnosed with menopause. The Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) was used to assess symptoms, and the Menopause Quality of Life Questionnaire (MENQOL) was used to measure quality of life. The data were analyzed using Spearman's correlation coefficient, with a statistical significance level set at p < 0.05. Results: 68% of the patients were between 45 and 55 years old. The MRS findings indicated that the vasomotor domain was the most affected (mean 25.04), followed by the psychological and somatic dimensions, while the sexual sphere showed the least relative alteration. A significant correlation was observed between the intensity of menopausal symptoms and the decline in quality of life. Conclusions: Climacteric syndrome is significantly associated with the quality of life of the women receiving care. The high prevalence of vasomotor and psychological symptoms underscores the need for a multidisciplinary medical approach that goes beyond the biological to preserve biopsychosocial well-being during this stage.
