Abstract

ABSTRACT Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, commonly abbreviated as T2DM, is a disease that can affect individuals aged 30 years and older. Older adults aged 60 years and above are particularly vulnerable to severe complications and mortality associated with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Therefore, there is a need for a change or improvement in the paradigm of disease prevention efforts by increasing knowledge, developing awareness of the seriousness of the disease, and encouraging appropriate preventive actions. Health education through poster media can be used as an effective approach to improve knowledge, awareness, and preventive behaviors related to Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. The objective of this study is to provide a reference for evaluating the effectiveness of delivering health information to pre-elderly individuals through poster-based education as an effort to prevent Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. The study employed a qualitative research approach using the Research and Development (RD) method. The research process began with problem analysis and information gathering, followed by the preparation of a product design draft, product validation, product revision, product testing, final product revision, and effectiveness testing. The results of the study showed that education through the designed poster media was effective in providing information about Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus to pre-elderly individuals, particularly regarding how to prevent the disease and reduce the risk of its occurrence within the family. Furthermore, the messages and explanations presented through the images were easy to understand and visually appealing, making the poster an effective and engaging educational medium. The Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus prevention education poster was designed as an effective educational medium for providing health education to the pre-elderly community. There is a need for a change or improvement in the paradigm for prevention efforts by considering increased knowledge, attitudes toward the seriousness of the disease, and actions taken to prevent the disease through education using poster media. The objective of this study is to provide a reference for the effectiveness of delivering health information to pre-elderly adults to prevent DM Tipe 2 through posters. The study used qualitative research with the RD (Research and Development) method, beginning with problem analysis and information gathering, followed by preparation of a draft product design, product validation, product revision, product testing, final product revision, and effectiveness testing. The results showed that education through the designed poster media was effective in providing education about type 2 diabetes mellitus to pre-elderly adults, on how to prevent it from being passed down in the family or causing the disease to be passed down to their families. Furthermore, the message content and explanations in the images were easy to understand and appealing for use as educational material. The type 2 diabetes mellitus prevention education poster was designed as an effective educational tool for educating the pre-elderly community.
