Implementation of isometric handgrip exercise and lemon aromatherapy for blood pressure in older adults with hypertension: a case study
14 days
Abstract
Hypertension is a health problem that currently has a high prevalence and poses a risk of serious complications. This condition requires effective interventions to control blood pressure and prevent complications. This study aimed to explore the effectiveness of a combination of isometric handgrip exercise and lemon aromatherapy in reducing blood pressure in older adults with hypertension. This study used a case study design with a pretest-posttest approach involving one older patient with hypertension. Data were collected by measuring blood pressure using a digital sphygmomanometer before and after administering a combination of isometric handgrip exercise and lemon aromatherapy for 14 days. Analysis was performed descriptively by comparing changes in blood pressure before and after the intervention. The results showed a tendency for blood pressure to decrease from 259/123 mmHg to 188/113 mmHg after 14 days of intervention, although the changes were fluctuating. These findings indicate that a combination of isometric handgrip exercise and lemon aromatherapy has potential as an adjunctive therapy that can be easily implemented by community nurses to control blood pressure in older adults with hypertension.
