Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Consumption of omega 3 fatty acid supplements is directly associated with a reduction in the aortic pulse wave, which, in turn, contributes to a better vascular age and optimal cardiovascular health. OBJECTIVES: To analyze the relationship between vascular age and consumption of foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids among adults and older adults in coastal areas of the Biobío Region. METHODS: A research project with a nonexperimental, quantitative, correlational design and a cross-sectional time frame. A nonprobability convenience sample is considered, with a sample size of 50 people. Information will be collected using the Arteriograph device and a survey of consumption patterns of foods rich in omega 3; therefore, the aforementioned instruments are administered individually. MAIN RESULTS: No significant relationship was found between omega 3 consumption and chronological and vascular ages. This suggests that other factors may be influencing the differences between vascular age and chronological age, or that the impact of omega 3 consumption on vascular health is not directly reflected in the population analyzed. However, there is a significant correlation between vascular age and chronological age. CONCLUSIONS: The study did not establish a significant association between vascular age and omega 3 consumption among the participants.
