Abstract

Hypertension is a health problem that is the number one cause of death worldwide and occurs in all age groups, especially older adults. Older adults are at greater risk of developing hypertension due to the aging process and declining cardiac function. One nonpharmacological therapy that older adults can use to lower blood pressure in hypertension is complementary therapy with celery decoction and Progressive Muscle Relaxation (ROP). The aim of this study was to compare blood pressure before and after an intervention combining the administration of celery decoction and Progressive Muscle Relaxation (ROP) therapy. The method used was a case report with the application of Evidence Based Practice (EBP) in the community. The sample consisted of 3 clients who received the intervention for 7 days. Blood pressure was measured every day before and after the intervention. The results showed a reduction in blood pressure in 3 clients, with an average daily decrease of 4.71 mmHg for systolic and 4.52 mmHg for diastolic blood pressure. The average reduction in blood pressure after 7 days of intervention in 3 clients was 20 mmHg for systolic and 16.23 mmHg for diastolic blood pressure. The clients' complaints, such as dizziness, tightness or aching in the back of the neck and joints, and tingling in the fingers and toes, decreased after 7 days of intervention. The conclusion indicates that the combination of celery decoction and ROP therapy can help lower blood pressure in older adults with hypertension.
