Background: Epidemiological studies suggest individuals with severe mental illness (SMI), including schizophrenia, schizoaffective, and bipolar‐related disorders may be at higher risk for cognitive decline or dementia, but studies on dementia prevalence in this group, particularly in the U.S. public psychiatry sector, are limited.
