Longevity Asymmetry and Civilizational Stability: A Framework Glossary and Analytical Reference
Abstract
This paper provides a structured terminological reference for the conditional analytical framework, first presented in Huynh (2026), modeling the intersection of AI Recursive Self-Improvement (ARSI), longevity biomedicine, and the adaptive capacity of existing institutions. The framework is non-deterministic: it identifies conditions under which the probability of structural lock-in increases sharply, not outcomes it asserts as inevitable. The core thesis is: if the rate of ARSI-accelerated longevity development exceeds institutional adaptive capacity, existential asymmetry in healthspan, cognition, and biological time risks becoming structurally irreversible. The architecture comprises six core axioms (A1–A6), four failure modes (FM1–FM4), eight dynamic modules (M1–M8), five falsification conditions (F1–F5), five structural paradoxes closing those conditions from the inside, and a basin-of-attraction topology with three critical nodes. A1 (Technological Irreversibility) establishes that technology trajectories are redirectable but not permanently haltable; its current instantiation is ARSI, empirically confirmed by cross-laboratory acceleration data. A2 (Longevity Incentive Persistence) holds that longevity research is structurally irreversible across the survival-capital-power triad. A2.5 (ARSI-Longevity Resonance) identifies their intersection as structurally necessary rather than contingent: no mechanism can prevent a general-purpose capability from applying to a domain it can advance, and no mechanism can prevent researchers from using the best available tools. A3 (Biological Transition Crisis) names the collapse of Therapeutic Bias — the assumption that medicine restores normal function — once Transgressive Medicine crosses into biological enhancement. A4 (Biological Stratification) formalizes the consequence: the primary stratification axis shifts from wealth accumulation to biological time accumulation — inequality in existing longer, not merely in having more; the pre-existing gradient is already documented by epigenetic measurement (Willems et al. 2026). A5 (Primal Pain of Loss, also: Primal Accumulation of Loss) specifies the political activation mechanism: when mortality becomes visibly class-linked, grief over the death of a constitutively loved person acquires an address and generates pre-rational political energy that does not diminish over time (regret crystallization, Zeelenberg 1999), does not require group identification, and is activated by love before loss occurs (Bowlby's attachment system triggers on threatened separation, not completed loss). A5 does not distinguish ethnicity, race, nation, or class. A6 (Institutional Adaptation Paradox / Moral Lock-in) describes the simultaneous violation structure in which institutions cannot act without violating one of two competing obligations. FM1 (Sovereignty Arbitrage) models self-enforcing enclave formation through arms-race logic requiring no coordination. FM2 (Cognitive Load Externalization) models the compliance-theater substitution of oversight architecture for genuine constraint. FM3 (Instrumented Visibility but Unequal Diffusion) establishes that transparency about asymmetry intensifies political energy rather than relieving it. FM4 (Power Overrides Sovereignty) documents that reputation-based deterrence is sufficient to protect elite access before formal governance adapts. M1–M8 trace the cascade from irreversibility threshold through temporal entrenchment, elite reproduction stability, neo-fragmented feudalism, legitimacy decay, welfare state structural stress, biological populism (Temporal Populism), and civilizational fragmentation — the condition in which the system itself becomes the target. Five falsification conditions define exits. F1 (Moore's Law diffusion) fails because visibility precedes accessibility by definition and A5 activates in the gap. F2 (Preemptive International Governance) is the only condition potentially outside the lock-in basin: governance before enclaves form and before A5 activates at political scale. F3 (Non-Retributive Social Movement) is conditionally viable only before A5 activation, which the Generative Paradox renders structurally insufficient. F4 (Entropy Reset) is inside the basin via the same Generative Paradox: organizational capacity sufficient to challenge concentration inherits the incentive structure it was organized to displace. F5 (Apathy Lock-in / Desensitization Stability) is refuted by the Symbol-Body Fusion mechanism: biological asymmetry is processed by the social-comparison neural system, which calibrates rather than habituates. The five structural paradoxes that close F1–F4 from within their own logic are: the Reform Acceleration Paradox (partial improvement makes remaining asymmetry attributable; Louis XVI died while reforming), the Governance Window Paradox (early action lacks political mandate, late action finds governance language has become liability), the Generative Paradox (entropy events and revolutionary movements reproduce concentration structure), the Dam Paradox (love-driven elite correction of asymmetry reaches the corrective mechanism before it can correct it), and the ARSI-Longevity Resonance Paradox (the mechanism generating the problem and the mechanism solving it through diffusion are identical). The basin topology has three nodes: Node 1 (ARSI-Longevity Resonance exceeding institutional adaptive capacity — traversed; Glasswing is documentation not projection), Node 2 (Biological Stratification becoming structurally persistent — currently active), Node 3 (A5 activation at political scale through visibility — forthcoming threshold; the biological zero-day mechanism advances the clock without requiring mature longevity technology). The Biological Zero-Day Mechanism establishes that each AI-accelerated biological discovery retroactively reclassifies ongoing deaths from natural to access-contingent, expanding the class of preventable deaths and advancing A5 preload. The Marie Antoinette Mechanism establishes that under symbol-body fusion — where the symbol is the biological fact of the body rather than the institutional role — the theoretical exit available to prior symbolic targets (abdication, exile, renunciation) does not exist; virtue amplifies rather than mitigates symbolic charge. Consumer Tech Bias names the analytical error of applying Moore's Law diffusion logic to biological scarcity; Therapeutic Bias names the pre-transition assumption that medicine exists only to treat illness. The framework's three ordinary premises — AI is self-improving at accelerating pace; people love their families; scarce expensive goods reach the wealthy first — are stated as dinner-table observations admitting no serious empirical dispute, making the framework refutable only by demonstrating that at least one observation is false or that one falsification condition (F1–F5) has been satisfied.
