Follow

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the benefits of strength training for the quality of life of older adults, focusing on improving functional capacities, preventing diseases, and promoting general well-being. The research was conducted through a narrative review of the literature. Scientific articles published from 2021 to 2025, in Portuguese, and with open access were analyzed. Theses, dissertations, and/or other publications that were not scientific articles were excluded. The findings indicated that strength training fosters autonomy, confidence, and the ability to live with greater freedom, helping older adults maintain their independence in daily activities and providing a safer and more active routine. The benefits of strength training go beyond the body; it also promotes emotional well-being, alleviates symptoms of anxiety and depression, and increases self-esteem, allowing older adults to feel more motivated, valued, and socially integrated. Indeed, strength training is capable of providing quality of life for older adults, improving functional capacities, preventing diseases, and promoting general well-being.
