Menopause is linked to declining levels of estrogen, loss of protective vaginal lactobacilli, and age-related comorbidities. Vaginal metabolites reflect metabolic activity of the microbiota and human host, along with exogenous influences, and can modify susceptibility to multiple pathologies.
