Abstract
Background: The origin of MRI focal white matter hyperintensities (fWMH) is not fully understood. Recent evidence suggests the perivascular surface of arterioles and venules may serve as cerebral lymphatics for homeostasis of interstitial fluid and toxic metabolite clearance.
