Abca1 increases with age in humans

We measured total gene expression in primary cells isolated from neonates, from adults and from older adults to identify ABC family transporters associated with aging and age in humans. In monocytes, Abca1 expression increased with age, while family member Abca6 was specifically enriched in neonates and silenced with age. ABC family multi-drug resistance transporters, thus, like SLC family solute carrier transporters, likely have important functions in aging and control of lifespan extension.
