Background: Amyloid and cerebrovascular pathologies play critical role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) is known to degrade Aβ peptides, while they also contribute to cerebrovascular pathology. Presently, the precise roles of MMPs in AD remain unclear.
