Primary outcomes

  • To assess the maximum isometric strength of the quadriceps femoris muscle, measured in kilogram-force using a portable digital dynamometer at the start of the study, after 12 weeks (post-intervention), and after 24 weeks (12-week post-intervention follow-up)
  • To assess lower limb functional performance (primary outcome), as determined by the time in seconds taken to complete the sit-to-stand test five times, at the start of the study, after 12 weeks (post-intervention), and after 24 weeks (12-week post-intervention follow-up)
  • To assess overall muscle strength, measured in kilogram-force using a manual hydraulic dynamometer, at the start of the study, after 12 weeks (post-intervention), and after 24 weeks (12-week post-intervention follow-up)
  • Assess the maximum isometric strength of the biceps brachii muscle, measured in kilogram-force using a portable digital dynamometer at the start of the study, after 12 weeks (post-intervention), and after 24 weeks (12-week post-intervention follow-up)
