Abstract
Background Metacognitive skills mediate the role of cognitive reserves in aging and facilitate effective cognitive abilities. Metacognitive deficits may precede cognitive impairments, making it important to optimize metacognition as early as middle adulthood to promote cognitive communicative well-being.
