Increasing Community Health Awareness Through Early Screening and Analysis of Random Blood Glucose, Cholesterol, and Uric Acid Results in Sungai Kaki Village, Katingan – Central Kalimantan
By Putri AD, Aireka A
Noncommunicable diseases such as diabetes mellitus, hypercholesterolemia, and hyperuricemia are increasing in rural areas of Indonesia, particularly Sungai Kaki Village, Central Kalimantan, due to limited early detection and access to health services. This study aims to identify the risk of PTM through blood glucose, cholesterol, and uric acid screening, while increasing community awareness through education on healthy lifestyles. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design, the population comprised villagers participating in Aksi Layanan Sehat (ALS) LKC Dompet Dhuafa (n≈300), with a purposive sample of 100 screening respondents, 100 nutrition package/hygiene kit recipients, and 28 children receiving education. Instruments included screening checklists, observation sheets, and semi-structured interviews; data analysis used the Miles-Huberman model plus triangulation. The results showed 53 cases of hyperlipidemia, 37 of hyperuricemia, 30 of hypertension, and 4 of diabetes mellitus in the adult and older adult group. CONCLUSIONS: Community-based screening is effective in detecting PTM early and improving health literacy through multistakeholder collaboration, although program sustainability needs to be strengthened.
