By Wulandari FA, Prisusanti RD
BACKGROUND: Menopause is a physiological phase characterized by the cessation of female reproductive function due to a decline in estrogen levels. Changes that occur during menopause can affect quality of life and increase the risk of anemia due to metabolic changes and inadequate fulfillment of nutritional needs. One approach that can be used to improve quality and prevent anemia in menopausal women is the Menopause Smart Nutrition education program. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to analyze the effect of Menopause Smart Nutrition on quality of life in the prevention of anemia among menopausal women in Tanjungsari Village, Jember Regency. METHODS: This study used a pre-experimental design with a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design approach. The study was conducted in Tanjungsari Village, Jember Regency, in April–May 2026 with a sample of 30 menopausal women selected using purposive sampling. Quality of life data were measured using the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire, while anemia status was assessed by measuring hemoglobin levels using a digital hemoglobin meter. The Menopause Smart Nutrition intervention was delivered over four weeks through education on nutritional needs during menopause and anemia prevention. Data analysis was performed using the Paired Sample t-Test with a significance level of α = 0.05. RESULTS: The results showed that the mean quality of life score increased from 58.27 ± 6.45 before the intervention to 72.63 ± 5.82 after the intervention. The mean hemoglobin level also increased from 11.52 ± 0.81 g/dL to 12.38 ± 0.77 g/dL. The proportion of respondents with anemia decreased from 60.0% to 23.3% after the intervention. The Paired Sample t-Test results showed a significant effect of Menopause Smart Nutrition on quality of life (p=0.000) and hemoglobin levels (p=0.000) in menopausal women. CONCLUSIONS: Menopause Smart Nutrition was proven effective in improving quality of life and preventing anemia in menopausal women in Tanjungsari Village, Jember Regency. This program can be used as a health promotion and prevention strategy to improve the health of menopausal women at the community level.
