Hypertension Education Program to Improve Blood Pressure Control through Hypertension Exercise among Older Adults in Karangnongko Village

By Zakaria A, Putri SDLN, Sari AP et al.

ABSTRACT: Older adults are at risk of developing hypertension, which affects their overall health and quality of life. This community service program aims to improve blood pressure control among older adults in Karangnongko Village, Nongkosewu Hamlet through education and hypertension exercise. The methods used include blood pressure and blood glucose screening, education about hypertension and diabetes using leaflets, and antihypertensive exercise. The activity involved 140 older adult participants, with blood pressure measured before and after exercise. The results showed a decrease in blood pressure in some respondents, although it was not yet statistically significant. Hypertension exercise helps improve heart function, blood vessel elasticity, and blood circulation, thereby reducing pressure on the arteries. Hypertension exercise performed consistently has the potential to lower blood pressure in older adults and improve their quality of life. This activity also provides a model for public health interventions that can be implemented sustainably. Keywords: Hypertension, Older Adults, Hypertension Exercise.
