The legacy of Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences V.Kh. Khavinson and new horizons in peptide bioregulation in clinical medicine

By Trofimova SV, Sinjari B, Trofimov A

This review is dedicated to the memory of Academician Vladimir Kh. Khavinson (1946–2024), the founder of peptide bioregulation, and summarises results of four original studies conducted in the framework of Russian-Italian scientific collaboration (2019–2026). Using cellular models of diabetic retinopathy, systemic inflammation, neurogenesis and cellular senescence, short peptides (AEDG, KE, KED) were shown to restore the antioxidant profile of retinal tissue, reduce monocyte adhesion to endothelium, stimulate neuronal differentiation of stem cells and suppress senescence markers p16/p21. The review translates molecular data into practical recommendations for the clinician.
