Associations of Serum Lipids With Clinical-Amyloid Groups, CSF Aβ42, and SHBG in ADNI-1

By Zhang L, Zhang X, Zhang Q et al.

This cross-sectional study examined associations of 88 serum lipid measures with clinical-amyloid group, CSF biomarkers, cognition, and hormones in 175 ADNI-1 participants. PC ae C38:1 was the only lipid associated with ordinal group score after false discovery rate correction (β = 0.231; q = 0.021). The categorical group omnibus test also met the corrected threshold (q = 0.043). Twenty lipid-CSF Aβ42 associations were identified before group adjustment, compared with none afterward in the original linear models. Rank-based models with categorical adjustment identified two Aβ42 associations. Sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) was associated with 35 lipids under conventional inference and 32 under HC3 inference. No module met the corrected threshold for group score or group-adjusted Aβ42. These cross-sectional findings offer preliminary evidence of lipid associations with group status and SHBG, with Aβ42 results varying across models.
