Separating neurodevelopmental and psychiatric services: clinical hazard?
ReviewIndustry & policy
Abstract
Neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders differ in onset and course but comorbidity between groupings is high. Diagnostically siloed services risk fragmented care, misdiagnosis, inefficiency and clinical risk. Such services also deskill clinicians and intensify waiting list pressures and budget competition. We propose more person-centric systems to reduce risk and improve outcomes.
