Sociodemographic factors in quality of life during menopause: a narrative review

By Anrango-Ávila MB, Mejía-Huera WA, Castillo-Guamán GG et al.

The sociodemographic factors affecting quality of life during menopause were identified through a narrative review of eight studies published between 2020 and 2025, indexed in PubMed and SciELO, and conducted in Iran, Ecuador, Brazil, Jordan, India, Spain, and the United States. Insufficient income and lower educational attainment reduced quality of life; in a rural area of India, 69.3% of women had poor quality of life. Employed women scored higher than retired women (80.5 versus 73.4 points). Low or moderate social support increased the likelihood of moderate or severe symptoms by 4.51 times, and rural residence worsened health-related quality of life. Lower educational attainment was associated with longer-lasting vasomotor symptoms. Sociodemographic assessment, self-care education, physical activity, and support networks are nursing strategies to improve well-being at this stage.
