By Karimatul, Larasati F, Nadiyah FA

Hypercholesterolemia is characterized by high total blood cholesterol levels, namely ?200 mg/dL. Hypercholesterolemia is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, one cause of which is atherosclerosis, which often goes unnoticed, especially among rural women with limited access to routine cholesterol screening. The aim of this activity was to detect hypercholesterolemia early and increase knowledge among women in Dahanrejo Lor Village. Methods included total cholesterol screening in 30 women aged 23–60 years using an Easy Touch GCU device, followed by health counseling and sharing knowledge about the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle, including consuming foods such as apples that help lower cholesterol levels, as well as distributing Manalagi apples. The prevalence of hypercholesterolemia (cholesterol ?200 mg/dL) was found to be 33.3%. The ?50-year age group had the highest prevalence (50.0%), followed by those aged <40 years (33.3%) and 40-49 years (25.0%). Hypercholesterolemia among women in Dahanrejo Lor Village was fairly high, with older adults being the group most at risk. Routine screening starting at working age and ongoing education are urgently needed.
