Centenarian Consciousness Index: A Biocognitive Assessment Model for Longevity Science
By Martínez M
Psychometric RationaleOne the challenges of personality tests and other psychometric assessments is their limitedpredictive validity of healthy longevity because the measures fail to capture the contextual andcultural contributors to healthspan. In other words, mindbody responses are highly influenced bythe environmental conditions and cultural interpretations of the meaning-maker involved in theresponse and its midbody consequences. Individuals can be extroverted with family andintroverted with strangers, emotional openness is valued in one culture and discouraged in another, collectivism vs individualist influences in cultural perception, and so on.The Centenarian Consciousness Index (CCI) is a 60 questions assessment instrument derived fromover 20 years of ethnographic content analysis of healthy centenarians (100 years or older),including collectivist and individualist Eastern and Western cultures. Each question is measuredwith a five-point Likert scale ranging from “strongly disagree to strongly agree.” As it relates tocorrelating biological longevity markers (micro-assessment) and mindbody patterns of perceivingand emoting the world (macro-assessment), the (CCI) measures 4 perceptual and 4 emotionalfactors common to centenarians from most cultures, expressed during favorable as well as adverseconditions, independent of cultures, capturing the unique ways they perceive and emote their innerand outer world.
