Research Trends in Menopause Health Communication: A Bibliometric Analysis (2014-2023)

By Agrawal A, Paikane M

Menopause is an important transitional period in the life of a woman having consequences on physical, psychological, and general well-being. Despite its importance, research on menopause health communication remains dispersed, with limited clarity regarding global trends and thematic development. This study analyses global research trends in menopause health communication over the period 2014–2023, identifying dominant themes, research gaps, influential contributors, and emerging areas of interest. Bibliometric analysis was conducted using the data retrieved from Web of Science database. Bibliometrix (R Studio) and VOS viewer were used to analysse publication trends, keyword cooccurrence, authorship patterns, institutional contributions, and global research collaborations. A total of 2,439 publications were analysed, revealing a fluctuating trend in research output, with a peak in 2021. Areas of focus include symptom management, hormone therapy, and disease-related risks. The United States, China, and England emerged as leading contributors, with institutions such as Harvard University demonstrating significant research output. Thematic and keyword analyses indicate a strong emphasis on biomedical aspects, while communication-related dimensions such as awareness and health literacy are relatively underexplored. The findings emphasize the importance of increased integration of clinical knowledge with communication strategies to promote informed decision-making, health literacy, and health outcomes among women globally.
