A Multidomain Approach to Health Screening in Older Adults: Assessment of Frailty, Cognitive Function, and Sarcopenia Risk
By Lovelina G, Ting ASS, Widagdo TM et al.
Frailty is a multidimensional geriatric condition characterized by reduced physiological reserve and increased vulnerability to health stressors. Early identification of frailty in the community is important to support prevention efforts and follow-up in older adults. This community service activity aimed to conduct multidomain health screening in older adults while providing education based on examination results. The activity was held on 12 July 2026 as part of the UMKM Fair in Semaki Urban Village, Yogyakarta. Screening included assessments of frailty, cognitive function, sarcopenia risk, blood pressure, anthropometry, and body composition, followed by individual consultations. Of 31 participants with structured screening data, 25 participants were aged 60 years or older, with a median age of 65 years. Frailty screening showed that 14 participants were in the robust category, 14 participants were prefrail, and 3 participants were frail. Cognitive function assessment in 30 participants showed a median score of 22, while sarcopenia risk assessment in 29 participants showed a median score of 1. The results of the activity showed variation in participants' health conditions, with the prefrail group potentially benefiting from prevention efforts and early intervention. Multidomain health screening in the community can provide an initial picture of the physical and cognitive conditions of older adults and support the provision of individualized education and consultation. This activity demonstrates the importance of strengthening early detection and health follow-up for older adults at the community level to support the maintenance of function and independence.
