Abstract
Background: The hippocampus plays a critical role in Alzheimer's disease (AD), marked by brain atrophy and cognitive decline. AD pathology begins during the transition from healthy aging to mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and eventually AD, with memory impairment as a hallmark.
